Mission Statement

Since its founding in 1885, the Photographic Section of the Academy of Science and Art of Pittsburgh has been dedicated to the education of photographers and the enhancement of the photographic arts in the local, national and international communities. It is our belief that our photography collections can continue to inspire and educate our members and the individuals of all ages in the communities that we serve.

 

Archive Access

Only authorized club members may access the storage facility

Any active member may make a request to view, or utilize for outside educational purposes, an item or items in the archives.

Requests must be made in writing to the club Historian stating the purpose of the request.

Requests must be made 60 calendar days prior to the need for the item(s)

If the request is approved, the club Historian will work with the member on achieving the member’s goals for making the request.

 

Students and Senior Citizens

The club encourages the use/exhibit of its prints for the education of school students and senior citizens.

 

Archive Request Information

A request to view, or use for exhibit , any item in the archives, must be directed to the club Historian and include the following information:

Name, Address, Phone Number, Item(s) needed, Date item(s) will be needed, clear statement of purpose.

If the item(s) are intended for exhibit, state the name of the school or organization where the exhibit will take place and the intended return date.

Please note: Due to special handling, requests for use of large prints for exhibit may require that the club Historian or another authorized archive member assist with the exhibit.
