Your Board had several meetings this summer to make changes and improvements. The upcoming event schedule is one example. The meeting schedule is sprinkled with the standard digital projection, print, and theme competitions along with an exciting list of speakers and topics, both IN PERSON and on ZOOM.
In particular, there is a two-part series on black and white images. The first part is a presentation and instruction by Richard Kelly, a photography educator from Point Park University, and former Pittsburgh Filmmakers instructor, on October 29th. The second part is a Theme competition for Black and White images on December 10th.
Another series is on infrared photography by Bob Vishneski. Parts 1 through 4 are complete. Part 5, on November 12, will be a presentation of infrared images by the participants.
We are also planning another evening series for Lightroom in October and November.
The event schedule for 2024-2025 is posted. Please check the calendar for the schedule and updates.
Another issue that is always a concern is the finances. We have endured inflation for the past two years. Your Board is sensitive to this problem. The Board has reviewed the finances to find ways to reduce expenses. The good news is that we have found ways to reduce these expenses and are solvent! We do not expect any financial problems for at least 30 years or more!! And there will not be an increase in dues for the upcoming year.
Your club members are also working on two very exciting projects. First, which you have heard about, is the Airport Visual Installation Art project in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Poetry Collective. We are moving ahead on this unique opportunity. We will need lots of images. All club members are encouraged to participate. I will keep you posted on the process and the images that are needed.
Our second project is the Keystone Salon of Photography, a regional, club-member only photography competition that includes 11 clubs in Western and Central Pennsylvania. We are lining up expert judges from the area. Cash awards are planned. Consider entering your images. Here is the link for the Keystone Salon of Photography 2024: keystone.myphotoclub.com.au
Our goal is to keep you busy and excited about photography. Send any ideas to Galen Grimes, gag5@psu.edu or me, fbdoerfler@icloud.com .
Finally, don’t forget to send your memberships dues in early. We are working on an online application and paying dues via PayPal but this will not be ready until next year. Therefore, dues have to be sent the old way and with a check.
Take care and keep your creativity exciting!
