Christine Lorenz – Photography of the Invisible

February 25, 2025 @ 7:00 pm8:30 pm

Join us for a fascinating look at Photography of the Invisible. In its early years, scientists using photography made many things visible that had not been visible before, from the microscopic world to the existence of ultraviolet light. This kind of photography gained people’s trust, and this became one reason for the rise in popularity of “spirit photography” from the 1860s on.  Christine will share a variety of examples from science, pseudoscience, and the allegedly supernatural—and how the trust we place in images has changed in more recent times.

If you enjoy getting out to art museums and galleries, including the current exhibit ‘Widening the Lens’ (at the Carnegie Museum of Art until January 12) you’ve seen her recent body of work on salt crystals.  You can learn more about her current work, and her new book ‘Fenestration‘ at www.cmlorenz.com
